1 What are referred to in these lines as the Six Classics are known to scholars today as the Five Classics, and the Rites of the Zhou Dynasty is not among them. Apparently, there was a sixth, perhaps relating to music, which was lost by the time of the writiing of the Sanzijing. To preserve the "six" the author promoted the Rites of the Zhou Dynasty to replace it. more details

2 It is the Zhou version that is most ususally when talking presently of the Book Of Changes. The book has engaged the interst of  Westerners since the 1960's and has many websites related to it.

3 The Book of History is frequently called the Book of Documents. The former is used here as being slightly more informative as to content.
